On Saturday 13 February, the Mater Little Miracles Ball 2016 was held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. Raising money for premature and seriously ill babies cared for at Mater Mothers' Hospital's Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU), the night hosted special guests such as Melissa Downes and Andrew Lofthouse from Channel Nine News and entertainment from internationally acclaimed pop sensation, Kate Miller-Heidke. To top off the night, a live and silent auction was held showcasing an impressive line-up of items including a magical 10-night trip to a 5-star resort in the idyllic Maldives. A let's not forget the brand new car donated by Zupps and Holden! Also offered in the auction was a variety of fantastic items and experiences provided by GalaBid's consignment service. Mater Mother's Hospital managed to secure a 67% increase in revenue on their original silent auction target. So what then made their fundraising event so successful? Although there is of course a myriad of reasons why (some of which are mentioned above), their outstanding result can be partly attributed to their use of GalaBid's donations function.
Over the last few year's online and mobile donations have become a substantial component of the fundraising efforts of many not for profits. People are now using technology for everything… and donating money to a good cause is no exception. According to findings from a Roy Morgan Research study, "The results show that there has been a 46 per cent increase in online donations but the most significant growth is occurring on mobile. With one in four PayPal Australia transactions now taking place on a mobile device, the number of donations given to charities via mobile has almost quadrupled.â€
1. Setting up a donation system that filters straight to your organisation is exceptionally easy when using GalaBid's electronic software platform. Incorporating this feature on the same branded website as your featured auction items and raffle tickets means that your potential donors only need to come to the one spot to contribute. 2. Endeavour to keep the process as hassle-free as possible. This means only asking for the information you need. Your donors are there to support your cause, not to enter a stack of personal information about themselves. 3. It's important to educate your donor about your cause and why it is important. This will not only help generate funds but turn your donors into long-term supporters. People often donate with their hearts, not just their heads. So instead of telling your donors that they're making a difference… show them! Mater Mother's Hospital uses videos, photos and a list of inspiring stories on their website to compel people to contribute.
