Direct donations are the simplest way to give and the most cost effective way for organisations to raise money.
Fundraising event organisers will often include a direct donation element in their event. Whether it’s a traditional donation box or a dedicated button on a digital platform, guests will have an option to give cash to the cause.
Unfortunately donations can sometimes get lost in the excitement of the event. Competing for attention with auctions, guest speakers, entertainment and catering may mean your donation box or button is neglected.
Fortunately we have a great hack to send your donations soaring. The trick is to give your donation drive its 15 minutes of fame!
……with a donation button. You’ll need a digital fundraising platform (like GalaBid) with a ‘donation only’ feature.
….as many guests as possible have downloaded the digital app. Use your MC and volunteers to remind guests as they arrive.
…..she or he is critical to the next step. At the start of the event when everyone is settled at their tables, but not yet eating, your MC will make an important announcement.
They will then tell guests that in the next 15 minutes the room will attempt to raise a certain sum of money.
…..get out their mobile phone and pledge a minimum amount via the donation button. Calculate this according to what is reasonable per person for your particular audience. Give guests 2 or 3 minutes to complete the transaction.
….by announcing the final result there and then. If you smash the target, well done!
….the MC can make a further announcement to say that just another small amount is required and give guests a further few minutes to donate a bit more.
….having a fundraising thermometer up on stage via a big screen. Connect your indicator to donations. It’s great for guests to see their contributions nudge the indicator upwards!
