If you sell tickets online or in advance, you are running a small society lottery and must register with your local council before tickets go on sale. The fee is £40 for the first year and £20 a year after that. You do not need a licence from the Gambling Commission unless ticket sales exceed £20,000 in one draw or £250,000 in a year. If tickets are only sold and drawn at the event itself, no registration is needed.
