As you can appreciate software testing and optimisation is one of most important components when offering a silent auction bidding system for use at live events. So, it will come as no surprise that we spend a significant proportion of our development time and resources on just that.
There is lots of clever software that allows us to simulate scenarios where thousands of users are registering, bidding and browsing the auction at the same moment. However, it's not everyday we find 300 willing volunteers in one room to run some live testing. So when one of our school clients, decided to test their WiFi last Friday we jumped at the chance to get involved. Our software handled 609 bids in under 10 minutes with an average response time of less than 3 seconds. And while the main purpose of the test was to test the WiFi, what was interesting was the 3G networks in this rural location coped no problem with the volume of texts and browser usage. We're hoping that the students' parents will bid as frequently when they attend the fundraiser at the school in October.
